Newly Upholstered Sofa Circa 1830

This lovely sofa is now offered in my space at MAI.  I chose this fabric to give a contemporary feel to the beautiful frame of this circa 1830 sofa.  The fabric is called "Dove."  It is a soft gray.  This fabric is from a line I sell that offers great solids, fabricated specifically for upholstery.

My Home: Master Bathroom Curtains

One day soon, I will do a complete reveal post of our master bathroom remodel, but for now, I want to show you the curtains I made for this room.

I originally bought this white woven fabric for a duvet I planned to make for our master bedroom. I eventually chose a different fabric for the bedding, so I was able to use the fabric for the bathroom curtains.

These panels are completely lined.  If you want to know how to make your own lined panels, check out my post from February 2012 here.

See the little peek you get of the chandelier?  I found this in the basement of our house and had it restored and rewired.  So thrilled to be able to use it.  It was originally in the butler's pantry (later remodeled as a breakfast room) of our house.  A full post on the bathroom redo coming soon!

My Home: Guest Room - Using What I Have

I have this problem with getting rid of soft furnishings that I have custom made for my home. Maybe it is the labor I put into it, maybe it is the fact that I spent so much time thinking through the project and picking out the fabric, maybe it is because of my love of fabric, maybe it is because I can't stand to waste anything.

Since we moved into our new (old) house, I have many, many drapery projects to tackle. We now have a guest room, and I needed to come up with a plan to decorate this room quickly since our home will soon be on the historic home tour in our town. The room was painted a buttery yellow before we moved in. I wanted to change it to a cooler color, but then I realized I have my teenage daughter's preteen bedding and draperies that match this wall color perfectly, some that I made, some that I had made. Problem solved. I am sticking with the yellow.

In my daughter's prior room, she had one window.  This room has one small window and one large window.  The set of panels I had on hand fit the small window perfectly, but I needed something for the large window, and because of my long list of projects, I didn't have time to hunt for a coordinating fabric and sew the new panels.  I was lucky enough to find four poly-silk panels from a fellow dealer at Montgomery Antiques & Interiors.  The problem is they were too short.  Lucky for me, they had a large hem, but I needed every square inch of that hem to make it work.

Enter...

I took the hems out of the panels and ironed the fold using the silk/synthetic setting on my iron to try to remove the hem fold as much as I could.  I then ironed a 1/2" hem at the bottom of the panels.  Next, I ironed the hem tape over the raw edge of the 1/2" hem.

Finally, I hand sewed the panel edges with the corner tucked in to finish.

Here are the finished panels.  They fit perfectly.  Lucky me that the previous seamstress left a wide hem!

I love the fullness of the panels, and it is amazing how well they blend with the other bedding.

The dealer also had two throw pillows to match, which help coordinate the previous bedding with the new drapes.

Project No. 1 of 20 complete!  Next I will be tackling my dressing room panels.

Queen-Sized Bedspread, Center Polka Dot Throw Pillow, Polka Dot Drapes all made by me.  Orange Coverlet, Yellow Minky Dot Pillow Sham, and Two Polka Dot Euro Shams made by Javis Davis.  Four Poly-Silk Panels and Two Matching Throw Pillows purchased from Montgomery Antiques & Interiors.

What I Worked on Today

As I mentioned yesterday, I am doing a bit of shifting around at the store, and the picture above is the wall space I painted recently.  The painting above the desk is an Oil on Canvas entitled "Military Men."  I really like the cool colors in the background of the scene.  They look nice with the wall color, too!  The desk is a Louis XV Style Chinoiserie Lacquered Bureau Plat with Inset Leather Top by Baker Furniture Company.  It is a really beautiful piece.

I planned on painting today but have decided to wait a few more days.  Instead of painting, I shifted some items in my spaces to make room but also to freshen them up a bit.  The following are some items I thought I would share because I like them and because they are unique.

Chippendale Mahogany Chest on Stand
c. 1800

Chinese Style Black Lacquered Chest with Brass Mounts by Century Furniture Company

Queen Anne Style Mahogany Bench with Shell Carved Legs on Pad Feet

Dome Shape Brass Bird Cage with Music Box in the Base

Brass Telescope on a Tripod Stand

We hope you will come in soon to see the variety of items available at Montgomery Antiques & Interiors.  Please remember our spring open house April 5-7 for lots of great tablescape ideas!
